Michael Barnes has just released his novel Against Time, its central focus is time travelling. Where would travelling through time lead? The protagonist, Daniel, had never believed in time travel. But when his dying grandfather reveals a life-changing secret to him, Daniel is faced with some major decisions that will affect his life forever.

When his grandfather reveals some of the adventures that he had experienced when using the mysterious time-travelling orb, Daniel is anxious to use the orb himself and alter his life for the better. His adventures see him attempting to rescue his parents, reliving dates and even facing a government crisis and Daniel comes to realise that the responsibility that is attached to such an amazing gift is not to be overlooked.

"From a very young age - says the author - I have been fascinated by the concept of time travel, with H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine being the catalyst. Just the question ‘where would you go if you could travel in time?’ conjures up endless possibilities. Within my own book however, I’ve attempted to try something completely different and that’s to give ‘time’, restrictions. A contradiction maybe, but I believe it adds drama, and essentially, originality to the story".

Michael Barnes is a wonderful writer and his central character swiftly becomes a memorable hero. As we empathise with the agonies of the decisions that he has to make we come to admire his courage and integrity under such extreme pressure.

Barnes adeptly mixes human relationships and emotions with science fiction in a book that maintains suspense from start to finish. Barnes’ gift as a writer lies in his ability to hold the readers attention, never relinquishing his grip on a fast-paced and undulating plot.

‘Against Time’ follows Daniel in his missions against the inevitable path of time, and is a thrilling read. Perfect for all lovers of science fiction, but equally for anyone who loves a good story well told, this book cannot fail to delight and excite.
